General Considerations in Lesson Planning

1. Determine the social skill problem(s) that interfere with your teaching or the students' interactions.

2. Identify the contextual variables that influence positive social outcomes, i.e. physical, relational and situational. Consider too, how each of the contextual variables affect one another.

3. Identify the subskills within the selected social area, such as the students' language skills, developmental levels and cultural differences.

4. Provide a rational and motivation for learning the social skill.

*Talk about the importance of the skill; "Remember when..."
* Use stories and/or folk tales as examples.
* Negative examples can let students see the importance of the skill.
* Mention tangible or token rewards the students will receive for participation.
