Can ordinary people change the way we run our country?

Can they open our eyes to new ways to do things or make us look at the way we treat other people in a different way?

In this part of the unit about your government, you will be introduced to the following famous Americans who helped to change our country and its ideas and beliefs:

Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Blackwell, Ben Franklin, Eleanor Roosevelt, Cesar Chavez, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Frederick Douglass, Jane Addams and Roger Williams

You will be assigned to a team-red, white or blue. You will work with other members of your team to find out about one of these people and how their ideas and actions influenced our government, our laws, or our culture. All teams must find out basic information about their famous citizen and will also be responsible for completing a task for each color group. You will use internet websites as well as reference books to gather information about these famous American citizens.

Each team will be responsible for completing a presentation that will be shared with your classmates. Your teacher will tell you what tools you will use to put together your presentation. Below you will find a worksheet that will guide your research.
