The Judicial Branch

The third branch of the government is the Judicial branch. This part of the government has the final say on whether a law is fair to all the people. The leaders of this branch of government are called the Justices. There are nine Justices on the Supreme Court. The Justice who has served the longest is appointed the Chief Justice. They meet in the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., which is often called “the highest court in the land.” Any American citizen has the right to question a law, but cases must pass through many lower courts (courts at the state level) before being presented to the Supreme Court.
