California Telephone Access Program

All middle school students enjoy socializing over the telephone. Thanks to a special state program, this opportunity to communicate with others is readily available to many students who face challenges.

Who qualifies for assistance?
* Students with limited mobility or manipulation: These may be students who are unable to grip the telephone or who are not able to get out of their wheel chair.
* Students with low vision: These student may need special lighting or optical aids.
* Students who are speech disabled: These students may have difficulty in being understood. (Laryngectomy patients are also included.)
* Deaf or Hard of Hearing: These students have a hearing loss that is significant enough that telephone amplification is not adequate for them to understand.
* Cognitive impairment: Students experience difficulties in interpreting information.

All equipment, training and services are provided without cost. Students do not need their parents' permission to acquire this benefit.
