Second Step

The theme of Second Step is the development of empathy, impulse control and anger management. There are fifteen lessons, one of which is a piece about gangs.
Apparently a critical piece of “Second Step” is the teacher training. This portion addresses how the school defines a climate. The training is about 7 ½ hour long.

Steps to Respect is a bullying prevention program developed by the Committee for Children. The kit provides grade level sets of workbooks, videotapes, teacher training and comprehensive lesson plans.

As middle school teachers, we had an interview with the program's representative, Diane. She said the third level of the kit would be appropriate for sixth grade students. The teacher training materials and the third level may be purchased separately.

You may order preview materials by calling 800 634 4449.

These programs are highly praised by psychologists in our district who are using these materials.
