The Importance of Achieving Standards

Success with the California State Department's Standards and Benchmarks have the primary focus of the teachers and the students. The standards for each subject area have been made into posters that appear on the walls of the classrooms. References to the standards are made by the teaching staff during each lesson. The standards frequently appear on teacher-made worksheets.

Standards are specified on the Individualized Educational Plan of all special education students. Standards are also defined for English Language Learners.

Right: A language arts instructor refers to a specific benchmark as she introduces her lesson. The Prentice Hall Literature series used in our school details grade level goals at the beginning of the textbook.
