E.O. Lawrence and the Manhattan Project

Ernest O. Lawrence 1901 - 1958 IIn 1939, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for, "for the invention and development of the cyclotron and for results obtained with it, especially with regard to artificial radioactive elements." Lawrence's cyclotron used an electro-magnetic process to separate out the Uranium 235 isotope for the Manhattan Project. He was decorated with the Medal for Merit. One of the United States premier nuclear research and development facilites bears his name, "Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory." American Institute of Physics - Lawrence and the Cyclotron
